Privacy notice

This notice explains how EcoMata handles personal information when you visit our website or use our estate management services, and the choices available to you.

Who we are

EcoMata is operated by Maralight Company Limited, a company registered in Nigeria under registration number 9274290, in Rivers State, Nigeria. Contact us at support@maralightltd.com.

Maralight determines how information used to operate our website and accounts is handled. An estate or property organisation generally determines how its estate records are used; Maralight processes those records to provide the service and may also have independent responsibilities, for example for security or legal obligations. Your estate may provide a separate privacy notice.

Information we handle

Depending on how you use EcoMata and the services your estate enables, information may include:

  • Account and contact details, such as your name, phone number, email, sign-in and verification details.
  • Estate, property, household membership and role details supplied by you or your estate.
  • Reports and work records, messages, photographs, locations, assignments and updates.
  • Visitor names, invitations, pass details and recorded arrivals or departures.
  • Service-charge bills, payment amounts, transaction references, receipts and related account records.
  • Device, browser, session, security and audit information, permissions and privacy choices.

We receive information directly from you, your estate or its authorised users, payment and messaging providers, and through your use of the service. If you provide another person’s information, share only what is needed and ensure you have an appropriate reason to do so.

Why and on what basis we use information

We use information to create and secure accounts, verify contact details, manage estate access, handle reports and visitors, administer charges and payments, send service messages, provide support, maintain the service and meet legal obligations.

Depending on the activity, our legal basis may be performance of a contract, compliance with a legal obligation, legitimate interests such as keeping the service secure and operating it responsibly, or your consent where required or requested. Where we rely on legitimate interests, we consider your rights and interests. Where we rely on consent, you can withdraw it; withdrawal does not affect earlier lawful processing and may limit the features we can provide.

Some information is needed for an account, estate membership or a requested service. If you do not provide it, we may be unable to provide the relevant feature. Do not include sensitive personal information in reports unless it is necessary and you are entitled to share it.

Sharing and international transfers

Estate records are shared with authorised estate personnel and other users according to their roles and the relevant workflow. For example, an assigned worker may see the details needed to address a report. Your estate is responsible for its own access and operational decisions.

We use service providers for functions such as hosting, storage, messaging, email, verification and payments. Depending on the services enabled, these may include Meta for WhatsApp, Paystack for payments, Termii for SMS and Resend for email. Providers may apply their own privacy notices. We may also share information where required by law or necessary to protect rights, safety or the service.

Some providers may process or store information outside Nigeria. Where personal data is transferred internationally, the responsible organisation must use a lawful transfer basis and appropriate safeguards as required by Nigerian data protection law.

Children and age

EcoMata accounts are intended for people aged 18 and over. Estate records may nevertheless contain information about children, such as household or visitor details. Where a child’s personal data is processed on the basis of consent, the consent of a parent or legal guardian is required unless an exception under applicable law applies. If you believe a child’s information has been provided inappropriately, contact your estate or email us so the matter can be reviewed.

Security and retention

We use measures appropriate to the service, including access controls and account verification, to help protect information. No system is completely secure. Keep your password and verification codes private and report suspected unauthorised access.

Information is kept for as long as needed for its purpose, the estate’s requirements, applicable law, financial records, security, disputes and legitimate operational needs. Retention varies by record type. Closing an account or requesting deletion does not necessarily remove records that must be retained; information is deleted, anonymised or otherwise handled when it is no longer needed, subject to applicable law.

Cookies and browser storage

Essential sign-in cookies maintain a browser session and remember the selected estate. These include em_access, em_refresh and em_site. Refresh and estate-selection cookies are configured for up to seven days; a session may end earlier.

Browser storage may remember display preferences and support enabled offline features. You can manage cookies and storage in your browser, but removing or blocking them may sign you out or prevent features from working.

Your privacy rights

Subject to applicable law and any exceptions, you may request access to your personal data, correction, deletion, restriction or transfer of your data; object to certain processing; withdraw consent; and request information about how your data is used. You may also have rights concerning decisions based solely on automated processing.

To make a request, email support@maralightltd.com or contact your estate management team for estate records. We may need to verify your identity or coordinate with your estate before responding. Please do not send passwords or verification codes. You may also complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.

Changes and contact

We may update this notice as our services or legal obligations change. We will publish the updated notice and provide additional notice where required. For privacy questions, contact support@maralightltd.com. See also our Terms of use.
